A dictionary of the English language: in which the words are deduced from their originals abstracted from the folio edition by the author to which are prefixed a grammar of the English language, and the preface to the folio edition
1790, Early Edition. [s.l.] : [s.n.]. Good copy only in the original full-leather binding with raised bands and a now-faded gilt-blocked leather label to spine. Front joint broken, with front panel detached and title page lacking. Corners heavily rubbed, with covers showing the expected scuffs and wear of age. The remaining text, which begins with the preface to the 1756 abridged edition, is notably tight, though somewhat dust-dulled, with some marginal creasing to the preliminary leaves. Some 19th century annotations remain in the prelims but are absent from the dictionary proper. A very serviceable copy. Item #453834
