"The first edition, entitled The natural history and antiquities of Selborne, in the County of Southampton, included two parts: firstly, the Pennant and Barrington letters and, secondly, a parish history, or Antiquities. The text of this edition is taken from the 1789 edition and includes the first part only, with minor emendations. The two additional letters, 'Timothy the tortoise to Miss Hecky Mulso' and 'On the sense of hearing the fishes', were first published in the 1877 edition of The natural history and antiquities of Selborne, edited by Thomas Bell, 2 vols, published by John Van Voorst"--Tp verso.
